Concerned neighbors in Trenton, New Jersey called police last week after hearing cries for help coming from a nearby house. No one answered when the police knocked on the door. Worried that someone inside was injured, the officers broke down the door.
The house was empty—except for Luna, a 10-year old white umbrella cockatoo who greeted the officers by calling out “Help me! Help me!” from her cage. Turns out Luna this isn’t the first time Luna summoned authorities to the house with her uncanny mimicry. Several years ago police arrived after neighbors called about a “baby” who had been crying for hours. The baby turned out to be the bird.
Luna’s owner Evelyn DeLeon says that the cockatoo learned much of her vocabulary from watching television. Apparently, Luna is a fan of police shows.
